Mangawhero Forest
You begin the walk on a bridge over the crystalline Mangawhero River. Ancient canopy spreads above you as you travel upstream surrounded by birdsong. Encounter deep shadow and sparkling light as you pass between sun-wells, touching the river at intervals.
Reaching a bright golden clearing marks the half-way point and you immediately begin the downhill loop. The forest on this side is flatter and more picturesque. A fallen trunk over the path tempts you out above a small valley. Soaring branches give way to scrub and you finish where you started; on the bridge and engulfed by the rivers sound.
